His wife, Lynne Kinsey, is a board member for Hearing Loss Association of America, California State Association. She was diagnosed with hearing loss in 1991 and last year received a cochlear implant to improve hearing in one ear. While not familiar with Ross’ group, the Kinseys agree that hearing in restaurants or at parties can be extremely difficult for someone who is hard of hearing. “They may have either no hearing devices and it’s hard to hear to focus on particular things, or if they have a hearing aid or cochlear implant, it amplifies everything,” Lynne Kinsey said. “If you’re in a restaurant near where servers scrape the plates, all that is amplified and makes it difficult to hear.”.
