As it turns out, it’s Mother Nature — not the fiscal woes of local cities — that pose the biggest threat to holiday cheer this weekend. Tonight, the official city tree-lighting and holiday events will take place in downtown San Mateo, Burlingame, San Carlos, Pacifica and Half Moon Bay. The Millbrae and Redwood City holiday events will happen Saturday, followed by festivities in South San Francisco on Monday. The forecast calls for shattered showers around the Peninsula this weekend, although organizers said it will have to really rain buckets for them to cancel.
